Chai (which rhymes with “pie”) is a traditional blend of milk, tea and spice common throughout India. In this part of the world, chai is a part of daily life; A pot is made first thing in the morning and guests are welcomed with a fragrant cup immediately upon arrival. The quantity/types of spices used varies, as each family has their own favorite recipe and preparation methods change by region. This style of tea preparation is so popular in this part of the world that in Hindi, the word “chai” actually means “tea.” In the west, we have adopted the word “chai” to mean any type of tea blended with spice and often sweetened and served with milk.

Teas purchased in bulk by-the-pound quantities are packaged in a heat-sealed foil bag with a re-sealable zip lock. These sturdy, foil bags protect the tea's freshness and flavor.

Orders for multiple pounds of the same type of tea may be packaged together in a single foil bag. Orders exceeding 10 lbs of the same type of tea may be packaged in plastic barrel liners.

If you are ordering multiple pounds of the same tea and need them packaged in individual one-pound bags, please note this in the “Order Instructions” section during check out. Be advised that this type of packaging may not be possible for certain discounted orders over 10 lbs of a single tea.

    For a chai, the brew is very very light amber on both steeps. Surprising for chai to be so light, but it really works with the spices here. The flavor just MELDS into perfection. The most balanced, perfect flavor combination. It's almost like a spicy sweet potato dish with marshmallow on top. It's warming, sweet, smooth. I don't really see those huge vanilla pieces in my sample that I see in the photo for the tea. The flavor has hints of vanilla but more vanilla than I expected among these spices. That crushed cardamom really comes through in the flavor. The combination of everything here is just this calming, lingering, lovely light base chai that I don't stumble across too often, so I can certainly appreciate this one. Even at much hotter temperatures, the second steep is the color of palest amber. (Though I love the brisk, dark chai too, this one is a change for the cupboard!)

    This chai is without any doubt my favorite spiced tea. The hints of vanilla and the lack of black pepper give it a smoothness that is particularly good with a bit of honey and milk. Love this!
