black tea (tin)

Smooth, creamy and delightful. Café Spice Chai is a beautifully balanced blend of antioxidant-rich black tea and sultry spices. Crushed cinnamon, warm vanilla and a kiss of ginger, cardamom and clove conjure up the aromatic delights of an Indian spice market. Enjoy this fragrant blend as a plain sipping tea or brew it strong and add just a touch of milk & honey.

Chai (which rhymes with “pie”) is a traditional blend of milk, tea and spice common throughout India. In this part of the world, chai is a part of daily life; A pot is made first thing in the morning and guests are welcomed with a fragrant cup immediately upon arrival. The quantity/types of spices used varies, as each family has their own favorite recipe and preparation methods change by region. This style of tea preparation is so popular in this part of the world that in Hindi, the word “chai” actually means “tea.” In the west, we have adopted the word “chai” to mean any type of tea blended with spice and often sweetened and served with milk.

  1. A lighter chai, but perfect combination of flavors in the mug.

    Posted by C B on 7th Jun 2019

For a chai, the brew is very very light amber on both steeps. Surprising for chai to be so light, but it really works with the spices here. The flavor just MELDS into perfection. The most balanced, perfect flavor combination. It's almost like a spicy sweet potato dish with marshmallow on top. It's warming, sweet, smooth. I don't really see those huge vanilla pieces in my sample that I see in the photo for the tea. The flavor has hints of vanilla but more vanilla than I expected among these spices. That crushed cardamom really comes through in the flavor. The combination of everything here is just this calming, lingering, lovely light base chai that I don't stumble across too often, so I can certainly appreciate this one. Even at much hotter temperatures, the second steep is the color of palest amber. (Though I love the brisk, dark chai too, this one is a change for the cupboard!)
    Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug // 26 minutes after boiling // 2 1/2 minute steep
    Steep #2 // 2 minutes after boiling // 4 minute steep

  2. Best Chai Tea I Have Tried for Making Latte

L;DR │ If you love chai tea latte, this could be your best bet. Try it, at least.

I've tried several loose leaf chai tea leaves from Amazon, but this one from Octavia Tea, without a doubt in my mind, is the best I have tried and my favorite, especially for making latte. It has a hint of vanilla and cinammon, and it doesn't taste artificial unlike most of the other brands I have tried. I would say that this is at LEAST on par with the more expensive offerings from other brands like CBTL and Teavana.

For the price, this is average.

    WHAT I LIKE │ + │
+ Very great tasting vanilla chai tea, just add milk!
+ Dry tea leaves smell very tempting. Aroma is awesome.

    WHAT I DON'T LIKE │ × │
× Weird tin can shape, and thin. Makes scooping tea leaves a bit harder.
× I wish it was offered in bigger quantities.

    PACKAGE │ ✓ ✗ │
✓ One 3-oz. (85-g.) tea leaves in a tin can.
✗ NO other stuff you need for making tea.

  3. My favorite tea

This chai is without any doubt my favorite spiced tea. The hints of vanilla and the lack of black pepper give it a smoothness that is particularly good with a bit of honey and milk. Love this!
