CAST IRON TEAPOT (HOBNAIL)
authentic Japanese tetsubin teapot
In the last 200 years Tetsubin, or Japanese cast iron teapots, have gone from plain kitchen accessories to beautiful tea-brewing status symbols. This classic design is reminiscent of its ancestors, but not without modern allure. The hobnail pattern not only adds visual interest and beauty to the pot, it also aides in heat retention.
Unlike many cast iron teapots being sold, this is a genuine Japanese tetsubin. We source our tetsubin (cast iron) teapots from one of Japan’s finest manufacturers of modern ironware, with a company history of over 100 years. The production process of making tetsubin usually consists of 64 to 68 steps. Our manufacturer still performs most of this by hand, and quality is strictly maintained and controlled by master craftsmen known as “Kamashi”. It requires at least 15 years of apprenticehood to become a full-fledged craftsman and 30~40 years to become a “Kamashi”.
Cast iron teapots will keep your tea hot for close to one hour. Fully enameled inside for a lifetime of use. Comes equipped with a removeable, stainless steel infuser basket. Holds 20 oz.
