Dancong teas (pronounced "dan-tsong") are harvested from hundred-year-old, wild-grown tea trees in the Phoenix Mountain appellation of Guangdong, China. The deep roots of these ancient plants are enveloped by mineral-rich soil that can only be found at great depths, which translates into more phytonutrients and flavor in their leaves.

We selected this particular dancong for its thick, nectar-like body embellished with rich aromas of dark honey, spice and exotic fruits, followed by a hauntingly opulent finish. A true treat for the tea connoisseur!

Our Phoenix Mountain Dancong won a 1st place in the North American Tea Championships and "Best Oolong Tea" at the World Tea Expo's Buyer's Choice Awards.

BREWING TIPS: Because this leaf is so light, we recommend using a full tablespoon of tealeaves for every 8 ounces of water. Infuse in 195°F water for 3-4 minutes. Dancong teas are also well suited for brewing in a traditional, Chinese guywan.

PACKAGING

Teas purchased in bulk by-the-pound quantities are packaged in a heat-sealed foil bag with a re-sealable zip lock. These sturdy, foil bags protect the tea's freshness and flavor.

Orders for multiple pounds of the same type of tea may be packaged together in a single foil bag. Orders exceeding 10 lbs of the same type of tea may be packaged in plastic barrel liners.

If you are ordering multiple pounds of the same tea and need them packaged in individual one-pound bags, please note this in the “Order Instructions” section during check out. Be advised that this type of packaging may not be possible for certain discounted orders over 10 lbs of a single tea.

  1. A unique tangy peach type of oolong!

    This is an oolong that I would guess without knowing the name is a very long leafed black tea, mainly because I’m not usually drinking this type of oolong, so it would be at the back of my mind. But Octavia sent it along and I’m happy to try it! The dry leaf has an aroma of very tangy peach and after a rinse, that is exactly what it tastes like. Very tangy peach. The second steep is much less peach and more of a roasty earthy mineral flavor with an aftertaste of peach. The third steep is almost a combination of the tangy peach first steep and the roasty second steep. The first steep was my favorite. I’m glad I used two teaspoons. If I had to compare this to another tea, it would be Teavivre’s Nonpareil Yunnan Dian Hong Ancient Wild Tree Black which is one of my favorite teas, so that is saying something for this tea, though this oolong might not be on the same level as the other. But this is very good if you’re craving this kind of tea!

    Whereas I have not been a huge fan of oolong, only strong black teas, this one has made me an immediate and a huge fan of this oolong particularly. Amazing from the first sip. I will need more.

    This is becoming a staple in my home. The taste is so good, similar to black tea, but with a sweetness black tea does not have. It has a complex flavor, & a sweet lingering finish.
