Organic powdered green tea
Organic powdered green tea
Used in the Japanese Tea Ceremony, matcha is a sort of “tea espresso” or super concentrated form of green tea, made from shade-grown tea leaves that are stone ground into a fine, vibrant powder.
Before harvesting, tea plants are covered with large tarp-like shades to prevent direct sunlight. Lack of sunlight increases the tealeaf’s chlorophyll levels and creates hyper-production of green tea’s healthy antioxidants and amino acids, in particular L-theanine, which is responsible for matcha’s soothing, uplifting energy. Matcha is said to be one of the healthiest teas available and has exceptionally high levels of L-theanine, an amino acid that famously promotes mental relaxation and alertness, helps the body deal with stress, and creates a focused sense of calm.
Matcha’s rise in popularity is due in part to it’s impressive health benefits; when drinking matcha, the tealeaf is ingested rather than simply steeped, which intensifies the flavor and delivers the maximum potency of catchins, chlorophyll, and antioxidants.
The result is a savory, creamy, intensly-green, full-bodied cup with bittersweet vegetal and rich umami notes. Our matcha offers a full palate with a pleasant bittersweet intensity, lightened with notes of lush grass and sweet snow peas, that mellows into a smooth, creamy finish.

Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha into a matcha bowl. Add 2-4 oz hot water (170-180°F). Whisk vigorously with a bamboo chasen for around 40 seconds, moving in a zig-zag motion.
DIRECTIONS:
- Sift 2 bamboo scoops of matcha powder (1 teaspoon) into a matcha bowl, using a fine, mesh tea strainer to remove any clumps.
- Add 2-3 oz of 170-180°F water (just below boiling).
- Whisk vigorously with a chasen (bamboo whisk) for around 40 seconds. Use your wrist rather than arm, and move in a zig-zag motion (making the shape of the letter M or W) until tea is dissolved and a thick, frothy layer of tiny air bubbles covers the surface. Be careful not to press the whisk against the bottom of the tea bowl.
- Top it off with an additional 1-4 oz of hot (not boiling!) water, depending on desired strength.
- Enjoy your matcha immediately, straight from the bowl.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
- Tea is only as good as the water used to prepare it. Avoid distilled or unfiltered tap water, which can limit tea’s flavor. Bottled spring water or filtered tap water is ideal.
- Water that is too hot can make tea taste bitter. To achieve the correct brewing temperature for matcha, pour boiling water into a separate vessel (like a teapot or measuring cup) and set it aside to cool for about 1 minute.
- To make matcha iced tea, mix 1 teaspoon of matcha powder and 8-12 oz of chilled water in a bottle, mason jar, or any container with a lid and shake vigorously.
- Remember to clean your bamboo whisk immediately by rinsing it in water. Be sure that your whisk is completely dry before storing it.
- For the best flavor, drink matcha within approximately 3 minutes. If you wait too long, the rich foam will vanish and powder can collect at the bottom.
- Depending on personal preference, add more water to adjust for desired taste.

The best I've triedI'm a long time Octavia Tea customer (Champagne Oolong is my go to tea), and I ordered this matcha tin after some Matcha I'd been gifted ran out. The flavor is amazing - the best I've had from anywhere, and I'm back for more (ordering the bulk bag this time though).
