This bamboo whisk, also known as a “chasen,” is designed to make the perfect cup of matcha. Our whisks are made in Japan, hand-split from a single piece of bamboo. A bamboo whisk is a must-have for preparing fresh matcha.
MATCHA WHISK INSTRUCTIONS: To prepare matcha, sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a matcha bowl (or wide, flat teacup) using a mesh strainer to remove any clumps. Add 2-6 ounces of 170°-180°F water. Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk for around 40 seconds, or until a thick, frothy layer of tiny air bubbles covers the surface. Move the whisk in a zigzag motion, like the shape of the letter “w.”
ABOUT MATCHA: Matcha is a stone-ground, super-green tea loaded with potential health benefits and used in the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It is prepared in concentrated, small quantities, almost like a “tea espresso.” Matcha is famous for its fresh, green, umami flavor and uplifting energy. Allowing water to cool several minutes after boiling will produce the smoothest flavor.
USE & CARE: Take care not to press the whisk against the bottom of the bowl. Clean your bamboo whisk immediately by rinsing it in water. Make sure it is completely dry before storing. Pair with a special whisk holder to maintain its shape, and keep making the best, frothiest matcha possible.
