Sencha Kyushu Island
Sencha, Japan’s most popular and beloved type of tea, comes from tea leaves that are steamed before drying to preserve their fresh green flavor, potent antioxidants, and health-promoting properties. This reserve-grade sencha comes from the Yabukita plant
cultivar, and offers a bright, vegetal flavor evocative of fresh rain in a spring meadow, with hints of buttered snow peas and sunflower seeds. Brew with water slightly below boiling (160-180°F) for 1½ -3 minutes to maintain this tea’s inherent sweetness, smooth mouthfeel, and dewy, umami flavor.
- Organic green tea
This tea is USDA Certified Organic.
Kyushu Island, Japan
Water Temperature: 165°F
Leaf to Water Ratio: 1 tablespoon per 16 oz
Steep Time: 2-3 minutes
General Guide:
- Add tea leaves to a teapot, fill-your-own tea bag or infuser basket.
- Use 1 to 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) of leaves per cup (8 oz) of water. Adjust to taste.
- Bring fresh, cold water to a rolling boil, allow it to cool slightly, then pour water over tea leaves and cover.
- Infuse (steep) leaves 2-5 minutes; 3½ minutes is a good average that works well for most tea types. Do not oversteep or tea may become bitter. If you prefer strong tea, simply use more leaves.
- Remove bag or infuser from water or strain leaves. Enjoy!
Water Quality: Tea is only as good as the water used to prepare it. Avoid distilled or unfiltered tap water, which can limit tea’s flavor. Bottled spring water or filtered tap water is ideal.
Water Temperature: Most teas taste best when prepared with water around 195˚F (just below boiling); however, some teas require a lower temperature or they may become bitter.

Tastes wonderfulMy favorite green tea that I’ve found in a long time. I tried it in the sample size first (by the way, thank you so much Octavia Tea for offering sample packets. They’re great for discovering new favorite teas, traveling, and giving as gifts. The sample packets are one of the reasons I’m a returning customer! Not every company has that option.) It’s definitely true that with more delicate teas like this, you really need to brew them gently for the best flavor. The tea comes with directions but generally just brew with less-than-boiling-hot water (like just below boiling seems to be ok) and steep for almost no time at all — maybe one minute, two at the most. And it tastes amazing. The caffeine level is nice, not overwhelming (I’m someone who gets jittery from coffee, for example). But it is enough that if I drink it too late into the afternoon, I’ll be awake all night. Haha. So definitely an early daytime or noon tea for me. I do like the texture of the dry leaves as well — they’re relatively large compared to other teas I’ve tried, and they weren’t crumbly or dusty, so there wasn’t quite as much mess for me to make when measuring out the tea. My cup was also cleaner with fewer tea leaf particles in it as well, which I appreciate. Of course there will always be some, but I find there’s slightly less of that with this tea. I’m a newbie to the landscape of complex teas, and I already appreciate this particular tea quite a lot. Thanks Octavia!
